Goodbye Winter at Loyola

March 21, 2018

Wintertime at Loyola is a special time for me. Unlike winters at home which are cold… like extremely cold, winter in Baltimore is a good medium; you get the picturesque snowfalls and snow days cuddled up inside with hot chocolate and a good book (aka Netflix), but it’s still not frigid enough to the point where if you had to go outside you still can.

However, that being said, the winter chilly’s do become a little tiring after a while, and my winter coat needs time to go to the dry cleaner’s to get all of my makeup off it and to be completely honest, I just miss the sunshine. I can’t wait to get back to the usual outside activities.

Springtime in the mid-Atlantic is something I believe everyone should experience once in their life. From the influx in crab related foods from all the fresh crab coming out of the Chesapeake, to the Cherry blossom festival in DC, there’s something for everyone here. Campus comes to life, whereas everyone has been hiding in their dorms for the past four months, you can see everyone emerging out into the warmth, laying on blankets and studying on the quad, and using the practice field on campus for every sport from lacrosse, to ultimate frisbee.

Personally I look forward to the opportunities for new adventures. From the Bay to Northern Virginia, there are so many cool things to do both in Baltimore and abroad. If me and my friends need something to do quick on a Friday evening we can take a quick ride down the street to Hamden, the cultural center of Baltimore, or dress to the nines, to go to dinner on the bay in the Inner Harbor. If we need to consume a whole day, take a ride to the train station and hop aboard the MARC train, and head to DC and northern Virginia, where there is always enough going on to find something to do.

Winter, you’ve treated us well, thanks for cancelling my ethics class when I needed you too, however spring, here we come!!

Rhode Island: My Place of Memories

March 11, 2018

Ever since I was young, Rhode Island is the place I go to every summer to make new memories! I have a beach house in Charlestown, RI that has been passed down in my family for generations. Taking the 1 hour drive to the house was always the most exciting time for me because I knew soon I was going to be on the beach with my toes in the sand.

I had my own little bedroom on the bottom floor of the house. Now, the windows were set in a certain way so that when about 5am came around, the sun rise would be right in my eye! However, that actually motivated me to get up (yes that early), read for a little bit on the patio, then go back to bed once the sun shifted. That was probably one of my favorite times of day because no one was awake and it was so peaceful listening to the ocean.

Even though my house is in Charlestown, RI, I always love exploring Watch Hill, RI also! Watch Hill has a lot of different little shops and boutiques! Of course, one of my favorite places to shop there is the Lilly Pulitzer store since it's right on the beach!

Next, I love having Sunday brunch at the Ocean House, which is also right on the beach. My mother and I would sit on the porch watching all of the tourists go by every morning and it was such a relaxing time.

Finally, my most recent, favorite memory of Rhode Island was my boyfriend and I had our first few dates there. It is one of my favorite memories because it was such an amazing time just sitting on the beach getting to know each other while blasting Zac Brown Band. We even kept sand from the beach on our 3rd date together, and it's something I will always remember.

Rhode Island has always had a special place in my heart with beautiful memories. If you have never visited, I would recommend it for a great New England summer vacation in the near future!

What's It Like to be Out of My Teens!

March 2, 2018

My 20th birthday was this past Wednesday (YAY!) and I've been looking forward to getting out of my teens for a long time. I feel like when you turn 20, people start taking you more seriously and you're getting ready for the real world.

However, I went to class today and was really thinking...what if I'm not ready for the real world?

Loyola is doing a great job prepping me for internships and life post college. However, I don't know if I want to grow up just yet. I feel like I'm just starting my life and it's moving way too fast.

So, I decide that 20 is going to be my year to make real goals for myself...and not short term goals either. Real, lifetime long goals.

When one decides it's time to decide the fate of ones life, there are certain steps involved. The largest part is that you need to come to terms with yourself. You can show people a facade all you want, but when it comes you recognizing yourself, you need to be honest. You need to come to terms with yourself, for better or worse, because trying to fool yourself isn't going to put you on the right path

One thing that everyone should focus more on, especially on a birthday, is self acceptance. While I turn over a new page in my life to begin a new chapter, I turn over a new page in myself, one that allows me to be the real me, ignore negative energies, and to put my best forward and start living my best life possible. Happy 20th Birthday, Me!!
